Wildlife Diary

The Loch Melfort area abounds with diverse mammals, birds, marine life, insects, flora and fauna and many of our guests delight in telling us their wildlife sightings.

Perhaps you've seen a golden eagle riding the thermals, dolphins jumping through the waves, or a rare orchid hiding in the grass. Red squirrel ran across the road in front of me.  A816 heading north up towards Melfort Pass.

Otter fishing in bay at Loch Craignish near Aird , caught fish which was eaten on bank & then left spraint on a rock.

Sea Eagle at Loch Craignish near Aird flying low over sea disturbing lots of gulls & geese.


Calum spotted a Otter on Tuesday, 12 April 2011 at 19:00

Pair of young otters frolicking in the shallow water just a metre off the shore in Asknish Bay in front of the hotel. Guests in the hotel lounges watched them playing while enjoying their pre-dinner drinks.
